| JAMES2 HARTLEY, JR. (James, Sr.1), the third child of thirteen children of James [1779-1855] and Elizabeth (Walker) [1790-1834] Hartley, Sr., was born October 9, 1814, in Dickson County, Tennessee. In 1831, he moved to Greenville, Bond County, Illinois, with his parents and siblings. He married JANE WYLEY CARSON, May 12, 1835, (no doubt in Bond County). They bought 80 acres from Richard Tatom in 1836 and March 1837 in Bond County. They sold these farms (filed, August 21, 1837) and moved with their daughter, Mary, his father, and siblings to Polk County, Missouri, northeast of what is now Stockton near Owen's Mill. In 1845 when Cedar County was formed and the government offered land to the early settlers, they became owners of 80 acres in Masters, Madison Township, including the land where the Hartley Schoolhouse use to be. Family knowledge was that he served in the Civil War. He died Thursday, October 3, 1867, at age 53. At the time of his death, he owned 1,211 acres in Cedar County and 114 acres in Cass County, Missouri. Seven of their children are buried in the next row west--Row C+. | JANE WYLEY (CARSON) HARTLEY
FREEZE was born April 7, 1818, in Bond County, Illinois. Her
parents are unknown. She married JAMES HARTLEY, JR., May 12, 1835, and
moved to Polk County, Missouri, near Owen's Mill. Later they settled
in Masters, Cedar County, Missouri. Her husband died October 3, 1867.
On February 8, 1874, she married JOHN W. FREEZE in Cedar County. He
was born August 10, 1820, and died July 10, 1881. He is buried in the
Fox-Langford Cemetery in Dade County, Missouri. Her health declined as
she had rheumatism and la grippe (influenza) which left her lungs in
bad shape, and she had heart trouble. She passed away July 16, 1895,
at age 77 at the home of her grandson, Asa M. Hartley, in the Hartley
district (now, Needmore) and near Masters, Madison Township, Cedar County,
Missouri. She is buried next to her first husband, James Hartley, Jr.,

| MARGRETTA G.2
(DELOZIER) HARTLEY (Perrin Delozier1),
was born July 9, 1842, in Polk County, Missouri, daughter of Perrin and
Francina "Sina" (Minter) Delozier. On February 15, 1861, she united in
marriage with JAMES W. "Wild Jim" HARTLEY, in Cedar County, Missouri.
He was born March 24, 1840, in Polk County, Missouri (now Cedar County), son
of James and Jane Wyley (Carson) Hartley, Jr., who are buried in this row.
James W. served in the Union Army during the Civil War in the 15th Regiment,
CO. M as 8th Sergeant. MARGRETTA died at age 35 Sunday, September 9,
1877, in Cedar County. After the death of his wife, JAMES W. married
SARAH J. MEREDITH, April 29, 1879, and later married MARY J___ [1845-1913].
Two daughters were born to these last two marriages. He died on
Thursday, December 29, 1927, at age 87 and is buried with MARY J. in the

| CHARLES MONROE4 HARTLEY
(James W.3, James Jr.2, James, Sr.1), the third child of Margretta G. (Delozier)
and James W. Hartley, was born August 9, 1865, in Madison Township rural
Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri, and died on Saturday, July 21, 1866, at
the age of eleven and one-half months old. He is buried next to his mother
and little sister, Nora Hartley. On his tombstone: Son of J. & M.G.

(James W.3, James Jr.2, James, Sr.1) was born September 28, 1872, in Madison
Township, Cedar County, Missouri, and died on Wednesday, September 13, 1876,
at three years, eleven and one-half months old. She was the seventh child of
eight children of Margretta (Delozier) and James W. "Wild Jim" Hartley. On

| WILLIAM MONTGOMERY3 HARTLEY
(Solomon2, James, Sr.1) was born August 13, 1858, in Madison Township, Cedar
County, Missouri, and died March 6, 1859, at the age of six months and
twenty-five days old. He was the fourth child of eleven children of Solomon
Hartley [1823- 1900] and Elizabeth Ann Delozier [1832-1897] Hartley. His
parents were married in April 1851 in Cedar County. They are buried in Gum
Springs Cemetery located on Highway 39 south of Stockton, Cedar County,

| SAMUEL ALEXANDER "S.A."2 TATE
(Samuel1) was born in July 1847 in Dickson County, Tennessee, son of Samuel
and Nancy Mary (Hedge) Tate. He came to Masters, Cedar County, Missouri, in
1852 at about the age of 5 with his parents and siblings. His father
continued his practice as a justice of the peace and was a farmer. His
parents are buried in this cemetery in ROW C+. He united in marriage with
MARY L. BALL, September 20, 1875, in Cedar County. They lived in Madison
Township for several years then moved to Aurora, Lawrence County where they
were living in 1900. Later, they moved back to Madison Township, Cedar
County, where his wife died on Tuesday, November 30, 1915. Later, S.A. and
his children moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he passed away at age 89 on
Monday, November 9, 1936. He was brought back home and buried next to his
wife and two children. |

| MARY L.2 (BALL) TATE
(John L. Ball1) was born in February 1851 in Roane County, Tennessee, the
third child of John L.Ball [1825-1911] and Sarah J. White [1829-1908] Ball.
Her parents were married March 26, 1847, in Roane County. They moved to
Missouri and also settled in Madison Township, Cedar County. They are buried
in the Lindley Prairie Cemetery near Bear Creek. MARY L. married SAMUEL
ALEXANDER "S.A." TATE, September 20, 1875, at her parent's residence near
Hartley (now Needmore). To this union, eight children were born. She passed
away at her home on Tuesday, November 30, 1915, at age 64. NOTE.- S.A, MARY L., AND CHILDREN, COY AND RUBY, ARE BURIED IN THE LONG CEMENT-CURB SECTION, WITH A LARGE TOMBSTONE THAT HAS "TATE", WITH EACH ONE HAVING A SMALL INDIVIDUAL STONE. Children of S.A. and Mary L. (Ball) Tate:

Samuel1) was born in the year 1890 in Madison Township, Masters community,

cement-curb section with his parents and sister, Ruby Tate. |

Samuel1) was born in September 1897, in Missouri, daughter of Samuel "S.A."
and Mary L. (Ball) Tate. After her mother died in 1915, she moved to Tulsa,
Oklahoma, with her father. RUBY passed away in Tulsa on Tuesday, January 30,
1917, at age 19 of pneumonia. She was brought back to Cedar County
accompanied by a brother and sister. She was buried on Thursday, February 1,
1917, in the long cement-curb section with her parents and little brother,
Coy Tate. NOTE: RUBY'S TOMBSTONE HAS HER BIRTH YEAR AS 1899. HOWEVER, HER OBITUARY AND THE 1900 MISSOURI SOUNDEX HAS HER BIRTH YEAR AS 1897. |

research was done on this person; however, no information was found on
him/her. None of the Barber families living in this area knew of this
person. He/she has a slender yellow limestone rock (believed to be very
old), with only the name, BARBER scratched on it. |

| HENRY ALONZ02 "H.A. & Bud" CLEMONS
(John William1) was born March 1, 1875, in Cedar County, Missouri, son of
John William Clemons [1845-1876] and Ellen Muller Clemons [1845- 1882] . His
parents are buried in Bethel Cemetery located on Highway 245 southwest of
Fair Play, Cedar County. On August 13, 1893, he married his sweetheart,
MARTHA LAURINDA LYNCH. His guardian, William McDowell, gave his assent to
his marriage. MARTHA was born February 6, 1875. To this union eight children
were born with seven that lived to adulthood. H.A. was a well-known farmer
who had lived on the same farm for 61 years in Masters eight miles southwest
of Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri. He passed away Sunday, December 11,
1955, at age 80. |

| MARTHA LAURINDA3 (LYNCH) CLEMONS
(William Lynch2, William Lynch, Sr.1) was born Saturday, February 6, 1875,
in Masters southwest of Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri, the sixth and
last child of William and Ellen Elizabeth (Hartley) Lynch. Her parents are
buried in this cemetery in ROW A. She united in marriage with HENRY ALONZO "H.A."
CLEMONS, August 13, 1893, at her mother's residence in Masters. He was born
March 1, 1875, and died December 11, 1955. They were blessed with eight
children; however, an infant daughter, later named Miranda, died at nine
days old. MARTHA lived almost two years after the death of her husband and
died of pneumonia at her home on Saturday, November 2, 1957. They share a

| HUBERT "Hube" ASCHEL3 CLEMONS (Henry
"Alonzo2, John William1) was born September 7, 1901, in Masters, Madison
Township, Cedar County, Missouri, the fourth child of eight children of
Henry Alonzo "H.A. & Bud" and Martha Laurinda (Lynch) Clemons. He was a
farmer and cattleman all his life in Cedar County. He grew tobacco which he
made into a twist and sold all over the United States. He never married and
lived a long and happy life until Thursday, February 2, 1984, at age 82 when
he was found dead of a heart attack at his home northeast of Bear Creek,
Cedar County. His services were held February 5, 1984, at the Butler Chapel
in Bolivar, Missouri. He is buried next to his parents. |

Alonzo2, John William1) was born July 17, 1913, in Masters, Madison
Township, Cedar County, Missouri, the seventh and next to last child of
Henry Alonzo "H.A. & Bud" and Martha Laurinda (Lynch) Clemons. He died at
the age of 18 years, 8 months and 11 days on Monday, March 28, 1932 of
pneumonia after a relapse following an attack of the flu. He is buried next
to his parents and infant sister, Miranda Clemons. His uncle, Arnold
Thornton Bowman, died at his parent's home just 3 days later, March 31,
1932. However, he was taken to Greenwood, Jackson County, Missouri, for
burial. |

Columbus2, John1) the seventh child of ten children of William Columbus "W.
C. & Tum" Dotson [1858-1946] and Elizabeth Jane "Betsy" Hartley [I867-1960]
Dotson, was born April 18, 1895, in Cedar County, Missouri, and died
February 3, 1896, at nine and one-half months old. Her parents were married
in Cedar County, August 7, 1884. Her father is buried in Wharton Cemetery,
Wharton, Texas, and her mother is buried in Forest Grove Cemetery in
McKinney, Collin County, Texas. OLA is buried on the north side of the

| SOPHIA MAY3 (CLEMONS) GRIFFIN (Henry
Alonzo Clemons2, John William Clemons1) was born November 4, 1894, in
Masters, Cedar County, Missouri, first child of Henry Alonzo "H.A. & Bud"
and Martha Laurinda (Lynch) Clemons. Her parents are buried in Row E. She
married STEPHEN JESSE GRIFFIN, December 20, 1914, in Cedar County. Seven
children were born to this union; however, three died in infancy. Stephen
was born October 19, 1891, in Cedar County, son of John Wesley and Emily S.
(Mitchell) Griffin. They moved to Ault, Colorado, where SOPHIA died at her
home Thursday, February 20, 1930, at age 35, from pneumonia due to influenza
following childbirth with their seventh child, Betty Marie, who also died at
birth. They were brought back to Cedar County where services were held at
her parent's home on Wednesday, February 26, 1930. All that mortal of both
mother and babe--the baby lying in its mother's arms--was laid to rest next
to her two infant sons. Stephen and children moved to California that same
year. On January 6, 1932, he united in marriage with Zula Hastings and had
four more children. Stephen died June 12, 1970, at age 78 in Hanford,

Clemons3, Henry Alonzo Clemons2, John William Clemons1) died at birth
February 20, 1930, in Ault, Colorado, the seventh and last child of Sophia
May (Clemons) and Stephen Jesse Griffin. Her mother had the flu, so the
doctor gave her some medicine and she went into labor. Little Betty Marie
was born premature and they both died. She and her mother were brought back
home to Cedar County, Missouri, and were buried on Wednesday, February 26,
1930. She is buried in the same casket with her mother lying in her mother's
arms. Her father and siblings move to California that same year. He
remarried and had four more children. |

| SOLOMON UNDERWOOD3 "Doc" HARTLEY
(Richard2, James, Sr.1) was born October 19, 1872, in Masters, Cedar County,
Missouri, the eleventh and last child of Richard "Dick" and Almira T.
(Underwood) Hartley. His parents donated the land for this Hartley Cemetery
and are buried in Row B. Doc, as he was called, married MARY ELIZABETH
ADAMS, March 14,1897. She was born December 20, 1876, and passed away
December 23, 1932. Doc and his sons had the first iron wheel farm tractor in
the Masters community and were prosperous farmers. He was a long time member
of the Masonic Lodge. He passed away on the same farm on which he was born
Thursday, November 22, 1945, at age 73 of a stroke. He shares a beautiful
double tombstone with his wife on the east side of the cemetery. NOTE: HIS BROTHER RICHARD DONATHAN "BUCK" HARTLEY DIED FIVE DAYS LATER, NOVEMBER 27,1945, IN CARTHAGE, MISSOURI, (DAY OF HIS FUNERAL). BUCK IS BURIED IN THE FASKEN CEMETERY, NORTHEAST OF CARTHAGE. |

| MARY ELIZABETH6 (ADAMS) HARTLEY
(James Henry Adams5, Levi Franklin Adams4, John Adams3, Elijah Adams2,
Solomon Adams1) was born December 20,1876 in Madison Township, Cedar County,
Missouri, the third child of seven children of James Henry "J.H." and Louisa
(Strange) Adams. Her parents are buried in the next row, Row G. On March 14,
1897, she married SOLOMON UNDERWOOD "Doc" HARTLEY, at her parent's home in
Dade County, Missouri; however, their marriage license was issued in Cedar
County. This marriage was blessed with seven children; however, a son,
Dennis Roscoe Hartley, died young. Mary passed away on Friday, December 23,

Underwood3, Richard2, James, Sr.1) was born November 30, 1899, and died
August 3, 1901, at the age of one year and eight months old, in Masters,
Madison Township, Cedar County, Missouri, the second child of seven children
of Solomon Underwood "Doc" and Mary Elizabeth (Adams) Hartley. He is buried

| CHARLES EVERETT4 HARTLEY (Solomon
Underwood3, Richard2, James, Sr.1) was born
November 6, 1908, in Masters, Madison Township, Cedar County, Missouri, the
fourth child of seven children of Solomon Underwood "Doc" and Mary Elizabeth
(Adams) Hartley. "CHARLEY" married ARVA LEE WEST, January 14, 1937, in
Stockton, Cedar County, Missouri. She is the daughter of John Nelson West
[1876-1942] and Nora Jane Gothard [1880-1966] West. Her parents are buried
in Lindley Prairie Cemetery near Bear Creek, Cedar County. "CHARLEY" and
ARVA owned and operated the Masters store for 28 years which closed in 1956.
He died at age 89, June 18, 1998, in the Big Springs Care Center in
Humansville, Polk County, Missouri. His large beautiful tombstone has the
name of their daughter and grandchildren on the back. Their grandson, Randy
Dickerson's death date, June 30, 1976, is also on their tombstone. However,
he is buried in Independence, Missouri.

of Ethmer and Ledra Anita (White) Lynch, died at birth Sunday, August 4,
1929, about 4 hours old in Masters southwest of Fair Play, Cedar County,
Missouri, and later named Carol Sue. Her parents were married May 19, 1925,
in Fair Play, Polk County, Missouri. However, they took out their marriage
license in Cedar County. Her father was born in Masters, May 15, 1906, and
died August 6, 1967, at age 61, in Visalia, California. He is buried in the
Visalia District Cemetery. |

| JAMES RICHARD "J.R."3 LYNCH
(William2, William, Sr.1), the second child of William and Ellen Elizabeth
(Hartley) Lynch, was born October 25, 1866, in Linn Township, Cedar County,
Missouri. His parents are buried in this cemetery in Row A. On March 10,
1895, he married FANNIE MARGARET TUNNELL in Dade County, Missouri. However,
they took out their marriage license in Cedar County. FANNIE was born April
11, 1866, and passed away April 15, 1945. "JIM", as he was called, was a
retired farmer in Masters southwest of Fair Play, Cedar County. He died at
age 85 on Saturday, May 3, 1952. He shares a double tombstone with his wife.

| FANNIE MARGARET2 (TUNNELL) LYNCH
(Samuel J. Tunnell1) was born April 11, 1866, near Dadeville, Dade County,
Missouri, daughter of Samuel J. and Catharine Tunnell. She married JAMES
RICHARD "J.R." LYNCH, March 10, 1895, at her parent's home in Dade County.
Aunt Fannie, as she was often called, was in bad health all winter but had
lived to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary, March 10, 1945. She
passed away on Sunday, April 15, 1945, at age 79 of a stroke at her home in

| WILLIAM SAMUEL "Sammie"4 LYNCH (James
Richard3, William2, William, Sr.1 ) was born September 30, 1896, in Masters
southwest of Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri, the first child of James
Richard "J.R." and Fannie Margaret (Tunnell) Lynch. Sammie was physically
handicapped, but otherwise, very intelligent. On a postcard dated 1899,
Lewis Tunnell called him "High Pockets". Another postcard written by Oscar
Lynch, he called him "Kizer'. Sammie never married and was living in the
Stockton Nursing Home in Stockton, Missouri, where he died Thursday, April
17, 1980, at age 81. He is buried next to his parents. |

southwest of Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri, the second and last child of

only two years and nine months old when he died on Saturday, August 3, 1901,
of the flux. |

| WILLIAM HENRY "W.H. and Bill"3 LYNCH
(William2, William, Sr.1) was born August 27,1871, in Cedar County,
Missouri, the fourth child of six children of William and Ellen Elizabeth
(Hartley) Lynch. His parents are buried in Row A. On June 14, 1894, he
married the girl of his dreams, EFFIE EDITH DAVIS. Five children were born
to this union. His wife passed away March 2, 1946. A few years later he
moved to California and lived with his son, Ethmer and Ledra (White) Lynch
and family in Visalia and lived part time with his daughter, Rushey and Jim
Thompson, in Selma, California. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in
Missouri. He passed away in the Tulare County Hospital in Tulare,
California, December 13, 1958, at the age of 87. He was brought back home to
Cedar County and buried with his family. He shares a beautiful triple
tombstone with his wife and daughter, Zona "Edith" Lynch. |

| EFFIE EDITH3 (DAVIS) LYNCH (George G.
Davis2, William Davis1) was born June 28,1872, in Madison Township, Cedar
County, Missouri, the third child of George Groves "G.G." Davis [I 837-
19141 and Manervia "Angeline" Fleeman [1 847-1921] Davis. Her father was in
the Union Army during the Civil War. Her parents were married February 28,
1867, Cedar County. They are buried in Bethel Cemetery on Highway 245 rural
Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri. She married WILLIAM HENRY "W.H. and Bill"
LYNCH, June 14, 1894, at her parent's home near Masters. Effie actually had
6 names: Effie, Edith, ldelia, Artivela, Malinda, Elizabeth Davis. She died
of a heart attack at age 73, Saturday, March 2, 1946, at her home in
Masters. She shares a triple tombstone with her husband and daughter, Zona
"Edith" Lynch. |

| ZONA "EDITH"4 LYNCH (William Henry3,
William2, William, Sr.1) was born March 29,1915, on the family farm in
Masters southwest of Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri, and was a Down
Syndrome child. Her mother passed away March 2, 1946, when she was almost 31
years old. She continued to live with her father until he was no longer able
to care for her. On November 12, 1947, she was admitted to the State
Hospital No. 3 in Nevada, Missouri. She was very happy living there as they
had dances and other activities to entertain her. This is where she spent
the rest of her life. She passed away on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1965,
at age 50 of a heart attack. She was brought back home to Cedar County and

| JAMES DEWEY "J.D.4 LYNCH (William
Henry3, William2, William, Sr.1) was born June 22, 1898, in Masters, Madison
Township southwest of Fair Play, Cedar County, Missouri, the second child of
William Henry "W.H. & Bill" and Effie Edith (Davis) Lynch. J.D. was called
to serve his country during World War I. He took his physical, October 18,
1918, and was classified I -A with the War Department of the Local Board for
Cedar County. However, he didn't get to serve as he had tuberculosis. He
never married and lived at home and helped his parents on the farm. He died
at the age of 20 on Sunday, January 19, 1919. He is buried next to his
parents. |
