Joshua Fleeman

Joshua Fleeman was born May 27th, 1845, departed this life July 26th, 1930, being 85 years, 1 month and 29 days of age. He was married to Elizabeth Holbert January 12, 1886; to this union were born nine children, all of whom, with his loving wife, survive him. Three boys, Clay, Riley and Howard Fleeman of Stockton, Mo., six daughters, Iona Harville of Visilea[sic], Calif., Martha Marman of Long Beach, Calif., Emma Harville of Compton, Calif., Ruth Hickman, Stockton, Mo., Ruby Stenson of Long Beach, Calif., and Minerva Addison of Stockton, Mo. He also reared to womanhood a loving step-daughter, Mrs. Theodosha Williams of Minden Mines, Mo. This dear loving husband and father was a faithful soldier of life and was loved by every one who knew him. His entire life was spent in Cedar County except two and one half years, which was spent in the state of Oregon. At the age of seventeen, he joined the army (Regiment No. eight, Co. D.) and served three years during the Civil war, and received an honorable discharge. He has been blind and helpless for the last few years and often told his loved ones he was ready and longed to go, and asked them to meet him in Heaves, where he would wait and watch for them. "Goodbye dear husband and father, Life will be lonely without you But you have left the sweetest memories, And comfort to cherish thru out years to come." The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Bethel Methodist church near Fair Play, Mo., conducted by the Rev. M. A. King. Interment was made in the cemetery of that place. May the Great Eternal Father bless and bind up the broken hearted, and draw them unto Himself. The bereaved ones have our love and sympathy.

Sarah Elizabeth Holbert Fleeman.

Sarah Elizabeth, daughter of Riley and Rowena Holbert was born February 5th, 1860 and departed this life September 3, 1945; being at the time of her death, 85 years, 6 months and 28 days old. She was united in marriage to Joshua Fleeman, January 12, 1886 and to this union nine children were born, all of whom are now living. Six of these were at her bedside. She was converted many years ago and was united with the Oak Grove Baptist church, southwest of Fair Play, where she was a faithful member, over a long period of time. In recent years she had withdrawn membership there, to unite with the Hopewell Baptist Church west of Stockton. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and took much interest in local activities always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her father died during the Civil War. Later it became necessary to go out into the world at a very tender age to make her way. Thus her life become dedicated to the welfare of others and she was never happier than when she could lighten the cares and burdens of others. She was ever devoted to the aged and children, and often expressed a wish that her last days might be spent among little children. She was a loving and beloved mother, a good neighbor and friend-and faced the evening shadows of her life as she had lived-patiently and hopefully, asking little, giving much. Trusting her heavenly father to lead and direct her-beyond this vale of tears to a life above. The husband, one daughter Mrs. Theodosha Williams, and one son John W. Huber preceded her in death. Left to mourn her passing are: three sons, Clay and Riley of the home address and Howard of Compton, Calif., six daughters, Mrs. K. V. Harville, Mrs. Martha Warman, Mrs. Troy Stinson of Long Beach, Mrs. Lee Harville of Compton, Calif., Mrs. Floyd Hickman and Mrs. H. M. Addison of Stockton, Mo., 27 grandchildren, 39 great-grand children and 7 great great grandchildren and two half brothers, Logan Mitchell of Dunnegan and Lev [sic] Mitchell of Caplinger Mills, and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors. Last rites were conducted at Bethel Church on Wednesday, September 5 by Bro. W. P. Barnes, Interment was in the cemetery there under direction of Church & Neale. Pallbearers were grandsons, Clay and Cecil Williams, Minden Mines, Mo., Bobbie Gene Harville, Long Beach, Calif., PFC Hubert Turner of O'Reilly Hospital, grandsons-in-law, Rex Jones, and John Cornstubble, Stockton.
