G. S. Jones, Circuit Clerk

Maj. G. S. Jones.

Maj. G. S. Jones died at his home south of town Monday night. He was about 81 years old and came to this state from Kentucky. In 1882 he was elected circuit clerk of this county and served for four years. In the early years of his manhood he was sheriff and ex officio collector at Paducah, Kentucky and held other responsible positions. He was a soldier in the confederate cause.

He raised no children of his own but several boys and girls were reared to manhood and womanhood in his home. There could be no more charitable man than the deceased when be was able to be such. Nearly all of his earnings were spent in doing good for others and in the end his estate was small but for such charity as his there is certainly a great reward in the future. A faithful wife two years his senior survives him. His remains were laid to rest in the Pankey cemetery yesterday.
