Logan Mitchell
Logan Mitchell, the last of eleven children from one of the oldest families in this are, died December 18, 1962. He lived his entire life-87 years, 8 months and 5 days in Cedar county. With the exception of four years he lived only a short distance from the place where he was born, April 13, 1875. His grandfather, Eligah Mitchell, was one of our first settlers coming from Rone [sic] county Tennessee. His father, Rev. John Clark Mitchell, preached the gospel for 64 years and was active in organizing Baptist associations prior to the following the Civil War, in Cedar, Polk and neighboring counties. His mother was Roena (Akins) Mitchell. He was converted to the Christian Faith and was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church since 1913. Sixty years ago he was married to Mary Isabellah Peeples of Elmont, Texas. Two daughters and two sons were born to this union: Faye, deceased, 1916; Mrs. Nina Cowels, Hamburg, Iowa; J. B. Mitchell, Mt. Vernon, Missouri; and Kenneth L. of the home. In addition to the wife and three children he is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mary Brown Mitchell, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren a great number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Last rites were conducted by Rev. Hobart Mustain in the Beckwith Chapel on Friday afternoon. Interment was in the Lindley Prairie Cemetery. Mary Isabellah Mitchell
Services for Mrs. Mary Isabellah Mitchell, 104 of rural Stockton will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Brumback Chapel here with Revs. Ralph Marcum and Joe Ridgeway officiating. Burial will be in Lindley Prairie Cemetery near Stockton. Mrs. Mitchell died at 4 a.m. Thursday [15 Jan 1975] in El Dorado Springs Nursing Home. She is survived by two sons, State Rep. J. B. Mitchell, Mt. Vernon, and Kenneth L., of Stockton; one daughter Mrs. Nina Cowles, Hamburg, Iowa; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
