Leona GRIGGS b Dec 1889 (my ggrandmother) The girls were all
born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma then Indian Territory. Their
mother Mary Alice 'Mollie' CARROLL GRIGGS d @ 1893 in
Wynnewood. When their mother died they were shipped off to
relatives. This is the first evidence I have found out where
they were until at least the 1900 census where I found them
once again with their father & new step-mother. (their
father then died in June 1900 & once again they were
shipped off to relatives) After their father died the girls
all became seperated and really never saw each other again.
My ggrandmother didn't like to talk about the years
after her mother died. She did say they went to live with an
aunt Julia CARROLL CALLAHAN (husbands 1st name unknown) Any
help of finding who the relative was would be a big piece of
information. I hope you all enjoyed the class roster above and

Linda Jane Hill Jones 19 July 9:32:20 1997 McWATERS: I have a letter written which was written in 1860 by my great great grandmother, Mary Jane Salmon McWaters. Although she signs her name with a double T as McWatters, the correct spelling was probably McWaters with one T. Her letter is to her sister Amanda Journey. At the top, Cedar County, Mo is clearly written along with the date: July 29th, 1860. It's a wonderful two page letter. She speaks of the hard times that they are having. Her husband was Hugh W. McWaters, and her children were named John, William, Hugh, Albert, Rosalie, Elizabeth, Amanda, Virginia and Joseph. Joseph is my great grandfather who was adopted by another couple soon after this letter was written. Seems as though something horrible happened and the family was split up. Joseph carried this letter around in his pocket his whole life and never saw any of his family again. I am trying to find out what happened to the family. She writes they have about 25 acres, all bottom land. Do you know of a Bee Creek? I know that I've heard of a Bear Creek. Could this be the same? I read a news article written in the Jefferson City Newspaper, Friday, January 1, 1875 that talks about a "Terrible McWaters" that was going to prison in Nebraska City for being a murderer after a long history of riding with the proslavery raiders in Kansas, riding with Bill Anderson, John and Fletch Taylor and other "desperate bushwackers." His name was William McWaters. Also said his mother was a Kentucky woman. As the article continues, "soon after the rebellion broke out he joind a company of the boys who burnt the Platte bridge and precipitated a Hannibla and St. Jo Railroad train into an awful chasm, killing many of the passengers, because Federal soldiers were among them. The he enlisted with Jim Giddins' band, and fought under General Price for six months. On coming back home to Bee Creek (Bear Creek?) he found the familly residence burnt, his father and brother killed by the militia, and the rest of the family driven off in banishment. If this William McWaters is really the brother of Joseph, my great grandfather, then the story of the family being banished might account for the adoption of Joseph who was only 2 or 3 at the time. I've looked for Mary McWaters in the 1870 census all over Missouri. I wonder if she could haved died in Cedar County. In short, I'm looking for any information about this family. Hope someone out there has heard of them. Thank you,
Jim Woodyard

HENSLEY - LaFORCE - ROARK: What
relation was SARAH HENSLEY, age 12 in the 1850 Cedar Co., Mo.,
Census to the LaFORCE family with whom she
resided? Was Samuel LaForce's wife her much older sister?
About 1856 SARAH HENSLEY married DANIEL ROARK, who was born in
1812--she was born in 1838. They had three children all still
minors when DANIEL died during the Civil War and when SARAH
died in 1867 in Nebraska. (Daniel had been married twice
previously and had several other children) By 1870 the three
minor children of DANIEL and SARAH are back in Polk Co., Mo.,
where son ALLEN THOMPSON LINCOLN ROARK is living with the
family of WM. J. HENSLEY in Dwelling 264 in Looney Township.
ALLEN is listed in the census only as ALLEN THOMPSON, but this
is incorrect, as proven by several affidavits in the 1812
record of DANIEL ROARK. That child's name was: ALLEN THOMPSON
LINCOLN ROARK The other two minor children were KIZZIAH JANE,
b. 1858 in Benton Co., Ark., who married JOSEPH PITMAN, son of
A. J. PITMAN. They resided in Polk Co. The other minor child
was BENJAMIN FRANKLIN ROARK, who was b. 23 Jan. 1860 in the
eastern part of Cedar Co., Mo. (pursuant to affidavit of the
midwife who delivered him). He married 28 Feb. 1888 to MARTHA
JANE WILEY, of Polk Co., daughter of JOHN WILEY and SUSAN
ALICE TITUS, and granddaughter of ALEXANDER WILEY and
LOUISIANA HOUSE. Very interested in the connection between the
HENSLEYS and the LaFORCE families, but also work on and will
assist anyone with the ROARKS or other families mentioned
here.

KIME-RYAN-BETHELL-BRUCE Alfred
KIME-RYAN: A real mystery family! We have a bible record
showing the names, birth, marriage records of the Kime family
who lived in Vernon Co MO at the beginning of the Civil War.
Alfred KIME(s) married 12 Aug 1858 in Vernon Co MO to Leanner
(Leanora), dau of William BETHELL and Margaret BRUCE. For some
unknown reason, the entire family started using the name of
RYAN between 1860/1870, and this name continued even through
their relocation to Indian Territory in 1892 and deaths
in Oklahoma. Does anyone know any possible reason for this
change of names? When Alfred KIME married Leanner BETHELL, he
had other children; (no sex indicated in bible records);
C. E. (b/7 Jan 1852); W. R. (b/8 Sep 1854); and S. L. (b/2 Apr
1856). Alfred and Leanner's children were; Theadoshe Francis
RYAN (b/24 Jul 1860); Margaret Ellen RYAN (b/30 May 1862);
Averiler Easan RYAN (b/1 Dec 1865); and Nora Belle RYAN (b/12
Jun 1871). Nora Belle is the only member of this family that
we have further information on; she married Perry Davis
Lewellen. The Bethell had lived in Cedar Co. Would be
happy to share information.
