Back row, third man was identified as William Rufus Snyder. According to Snyder's obituary and various newspaper articles, he was elected collector and took office in 1895. Although it has been suggested that the gentleman in the center front was James Knox Polk Williams, no news stories were located that indicated that he had been an elected official during the 1895-1900 time period.
The New Officers.
All of the new officers have been qualified and have given their respective bonds. Sheriff Holman succeeded himself with much complacency and without a murmur of discontent. Probate judge Jno. R. Lindley, with the modesty of a sweet maiden of sixteen, accepted the burden placed on him, and declares and says that the outgoing judge seemed well satisfied and made no complaints. Prosecuting Attorney W. W. Younger, again enters upon his duties with a vim and a determination that he will do his whole duty and make it as warm as possible for offenders of law. County Clerk T. N. Woodruff, will enter upon his duties next Monday morning. Circuit Clerk, Amos S. Hackett, will also take his office on Monday morning next. Judge Franzo K. Crawford will sit as presiding Judge at the next meeting of the board. Collector W. R. Snyder will not fill his position until March 1st. Judges Floyd and Brown have succeeded themselves. They are worthy public servants.
Cedar county never elected a better set of officers and we venture nothing in saying that they will ever strive to do their duty and treat their constituency with uniform courtesy.
